Recent changes to Forestry grant structures have enhanced opportunities for the creation of new large scale commercial conifer and mixed woodlands for the first time since the 1980's. As a result, this are a growing and rewarding branch of forest design. Such projects offer an interesting design exercise in balancing the commercial objectives with visual and environmental impacts, so as to create a conifer woodland that contributes to the landscape rather than impacts upon it. AGFD has long experience in mitigating visual impacts of new forests, and balancing landscape and environmental constraints with production targets. Designs are graphically supported by computer generated 3D illustrations overlaid on photographs so as to create photo-real illustrations of the future forest.
Due to scale and potential impacts on landscape, archaeology, etc., these schemes can be subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment. AGFD has long experience in producing the Landscape and Visual Impact elements of EIA's. It is also worth bearing in mind that a well thought out and supported forest design, professionally presented at scoping stage, can satisfy consultees so as to prevent the need for an expensive and lengthy EIA process.
